IAAB Javan!

IAAB Javan! is a branch of IAAB whose aim is to motivate the younger generation of hyphenated Iranians to become involved in, and aware of, the Iranian community both inside and outside Iran. We have various upcoming projects, one of which is Pen-Pals Across Borders:

Pen-Pals Across Borders

As the younger generation of hyphenated Iranians grows older and begins to question their identity and develop their curiosity regarding their multi-layered heritage, it is important for them to establish and maintain ties with the Iranian community both inside and outside of Iran.  Pen-Pals Across Borders addresses this need of the younger generation of Iranians living outside of Iran by providing a means through which they can interact with their peers in Iran.

Following the severe earthquake that hit the city of Bam in December 2003, IAAB has been in close contact with various schools and NGOs in Bam that work with elementary school children.  Through Pen-Pals Across Borders, young Iranian-Americans living in the United States can sign up for a pen-pal who lives and goes to school in Bam, Iran.

Various NGOs in Bam have already signed up for this program and the teachers and NGO leaders there will supervise their students in the letter-writing process.  In the United States, IAAB Javan! will work closely with Persian language schools across the country to link schools in Bam and U.S., allowing students to write letters in Persian to their peers around the globe.
